I’m in tears, speechless over hearing this news.
Ann Reinking was THE quintessential dancer & she was Bob Fosse’s muse. They both made me want to dance! If you’ve never seen “All That Jazz,” please get it ASAP! You’ll be mesmerized by the story, the choreography & of course, Ann’s legs which could stretch for miles! I still watch the film at least once a year.
It was sometime in the late 1970’s & I can remember locking myself up in my room, putting on the LP to the “All That Jazz” soundtrack & I’d practicie every routine to every tune. This was my haven! I loved trying to mimic her every move. Whether it be a simple flip of the wrist, a finger snap, head nod, or a blink, I practiced everything. Well, I tried anyway.
I’m wildly overcome. Bob Fosse, Ann Reinking & of course, the infamous Gwen Verdon were a gift, a kind of magic. Now, all three legends are gone. However, they will never be forgotten! The original choreography will still be taught to young dancers just as the award winning shows will continue to live on in film, on stage and in our hearts.
